Mike is a highly skilled trial lawyer who guides companies and executives through complex business and employment issues. His practice focuses on commercial litigation and labor and employment litigation. Mike has significant experience litigating complex contractual, fraud, breach of fiduciary duty, and business theft claims, as well as claims involving non-compete and non-solicitation provisions, trade secret theft, discrimination, and retaliation. Because of his experience litigating different kinds of business and employment issues, several clients rely on Mike as an outside general counsel. 

Mike is licensed to practice law in Texas and Louisiana, but he has worked with clients throughout the U.S. in litigation at both the federal and state court level. He also represents employers in investigations and audits by agencies such as the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Texas Workforce Commission, and the U.S. Department of Labor.

In addition to his litigation practice, Mike regularly advises clients about matters involving employment and confidentiality agreements, executive agreements and separations, and corporate investigations.  He also counsels and advises clients on issues such as workplace safety, workplace harassment, leaves of absence, hiring, termination, and severance policies and procedures, and litigation avoidance.

Mike serves as a hiring partner for the Houston office and manages the office’s Summer Associate Program.

Representative Matters

  • Represented an innovative plastics solutions company in a suit filed against former employees where a jury returned a multimillion-dollar verdict establishing the trade secret nature of the technology and the misappropriation by the defendants
  • Obtained judgment in national call center’s favor in disability discrimination lawsuit filed by former employee
  • Defended manufacturer in lawsuit brought under the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act in which the court dismissed manufacturer from lawsuit during trial
  • Obtained summary judgment on behalf of a pipeline company in a breach of contract dispute
  • Represented manufacturer and nationwide distributor in cases involving products liability and personal injury claims
  • Represented manufacturer of offshore oil platform access system in products liability and personal injury lawsuits 
  • Represented medical device manufacturer in products liability and deceptive trade practices act lawsuit
  • Obtained restraining order and temporary injunction in case involving ownership and use of client’s proprietary software
  • Represented new professional services company and its owner in defense of application for temporary injunction after owner’s former employer sought to restrain activities of new company 
  • Represented professional services companies in multiple cases against employees for misappropriation of confidential information, breach of fiduciary duties, and breach of non-solicitation agreements
